Empower Us is led by self-advocates, including the self-advocate council members of Inclusion International.
We speak up for people with an intellectual disability in the 5 regions of the world on the council of Inclusion International.

Mia from Lebanon
Mia is a trainer and a painter. She enjoys discussing her rights and learning new things from people.
Mia's greatest achievement as a self-advocate is training to start a new self-advocacy group in her region. Mia says "We mainly talk about our life and what is important for us to be able to make our lives more beautiful." Mia has also worked with refugees with intellectual disabilities.
Mia is looking forward to working on Empower Us , she says she is excited "to exchange ideas, to understand the feelings of other Self-advocates and to help the self-advocacy movement to grow."
Luis Gabriel from Colombia
Luis Gabriel has been representing the voices of self-advocates from the region of the Americas, since 2015 . Luis Gabriel speaks English and Spanish.
Luis Gabriel says his greatest achievement as a self-advocate is "To know many people with disabilities from around the world who are making great changes in their communities, and to to represent my region in a positive and right way."
Luis Gabriel says he is "completely honored and thrilled" to lead Empower Us.
Mark from Malawi
Mark is proud of his work as a self-advocate especially "standing up for intellectual disability rights in my country Malawi"
Mark is excited to lead the Empower Us work, he says "I will empower my fellow African Self Advocates, and make their voices be heard"
David from New Zealand
David says "I am a person with intellectual disability and Autism and I live in New Zealand. I am committed to promoting and encouraging self advocacy"
David's greatest achievement as a self-advocate has been networking and engaging with other self advocates around the world, sharing stories about self advocacy and being part of Inclusion International.
David is looking forward to the Empower Us work, especially he says the "global self advocacy website created for people to understand and learn about self advocacy"
Sara from the United Kingdom
Sara has worked for the organisation Mencap Cymru in Wales, UK on a variety of projects for the past 10 years. Sara has really enjoyed working with young people and helping to provide more opportunities for them. Sara's interests outside of work include drama, dance and all types of music.
Sara's greatest achievement as a self-advocate was speaking up about health issues for people with intellectual disabilities at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Sara says she is looking forward to seeing "best practices in self-advocacy being championed by Empower Us and spread to all countries in the world eventually."
Jayne from Kenya
Jayne is working with the leadership team as the Empower Us intern.
Jayne says "I am Jane from Kenya, I am a self advocate and I am looking forward to the internship and working in a team"
Jayne's greatest achievement as a self-advocate has been completing BRIDGE training which supports disability leaders to learn how to advocate for inclusion and advancing the human rights of people with disabilities.
Jayne says "I am excited to work on Empower Us because I will learn more about my disability and how self advocates can get better support. I want to see other self advocates getting jobs and living independently."
